This feature, combined with the ease with which it adapts to live in captivity and its high rate of growth, has transformed it into a key species in the fish farming endeavors of Colombia and Venezuela, exploiting both purely and also through the hybrid that It originates from its hubridization with la cachama negra (Colossoma macropomum), and where a fertile offspring is achieved, allowing a new crossing of it with some of its progenitor species, which may affect the wild populations of both, if escapes occur of hybrid individuals to the natural environment. - Orinoco Delta Lodge.
Strange that here in Manaus and the Mmazon region this fish is called 'Tambaqui', while 'Pacu' is the name given to the Metynnis.

Perhaps some collector confused the names and the wrong name stuck.

The fish known as and similar to Colossoma, are known as 'Pacu' everywhere, except the place of origin; the place of origin should know the real original name for the fish!

It's the best tasting fish in the world. We eat it regularly - Wayne Wright
