 "In addition to distinctive features that are not recognizable on live fish, and color differences that are uncertain because of the strong ability to change colors of the fish, there is one feature that allows for certain determination on a sharp macrophoto: the edge of a small bone above the gill cover, called Supracleithrum. The edge of that ankle is at C. punctulatum always smooth, with C. Latruncularium equipped with small tips. Of course, the two Crenicara species are not therefore different species, because such an invisible bone is smooth or jacked. It's much different around here. Specialists for Crenicara recognized intuitively that there were different species here and now had to find a feature that allows even non-specialists to safely make a destination.
