Lake Titicaca ((Lago Titicaca) Bolivia-Peru) is the highest navigable lake in the world, with an altitude of 3,812 meters above sea level. It is also one of the largest lakes in South America, with an area of 8,372 kmē. In addition there are also numerous islands, some of them inhabited by local communities. Among the most famous islands are the Isla del Sol and the Isla de la Luna, considered sacred by the Incas. Among the most prominent lakes observable at the lower end of the photo are Lake Baikal (Russia) - 446m above sea level and 1642m deep and Lake Superior (USA-Canada) - 183m above sea level and 406m deep
