Cichla cf occelaris “Brokopondo” commonly known as Brokopondo. The lake Brokopondo is actually a man made dam on the Suriname river. The reservoir was created by constructing Afobaka Dam across the Suriname River between 1961 and 1964. The bass were introduced into river there as “occelaris” but have evolved over decades. Now they look completely different than the true Cichla occelaris from Guyana. Most will develop random irregular markings with the coarse snake snake patter on the scales.
